Operations Manager - Alexander Farming Genetics Ltd

The business is a mixed enterprise farming operation with an intensive commercial sheep and cattle breeding and finishing operation along with running a small, recorded stud of Facial Eczema Tolerant Romney ewes. The Waikato operation will be wintering around 10,000su at 14 su/ha when the new block is integrated into the business. The
new block will be utilised for drystock and has the potential for arable farming – policies are currently under consideration.
Recently, Alexander Farming Genetics Limited has undergone a restructuring process to better position the business to incorporate the new block moving forward. Reporting through to the independent Chair of a newly formed Board, Craig Alexander will assume the position of Business Manager.
Reporting directly to the Business Manager, this newly created Operations Manager role has operational responsibility for the management of the Scottdale and Headlands Blocks, to ensure that business plans for these blocks are met or exceeded.
This is a highly intensive farming business operating in the top 10% and therefore, the Business Manager is keen to support the appointee and provide an in-depth induction into the role. This is a hands-on position with the following key areas of responsibility including:
- Farm Operations
- Financial Management
- Compliance
- Business Monitoring and Reporting to Business Manager
Our client is looking for an organised Operations Manager who is keen to be ‘hands-on’. Along with a positive attitude the below are also key to success in this role:
- Relevant experience in an operational management role within a farming business.
- Proven feed budgeting; grazing management planning; and daily operational planning skills.
- Analytical, budgeting, and financial literacy skills.
- Staff management experience.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Able to lead by example and develop positive working relationships.
- Computer literate.
- Salary will reflect the level of experience you bring to the role.
- There are two home options - a near new 3-bedroom “Heartland Home” on the new block or a 2-bedroom cottage on the main farm.
