Operations Manager - Beetham Pastural Ltd

  • Located in the active rural community of Wainuioru, Wairarapa.
  • Work with owners who are passionate about the future of the Red Meat Sector.

WHERE
Beetham Pastural is an intergenerational family-owned farming business comprising 1225 ha effective across two properties. Based in the small rural district of Wainuioru, the properties are a 20 minute drive east of Masterton, the main shopping and service centre for the rural Wairarapa region.
The two properties, Highcliffs (755ha effective) and Brancepeth (468ha effective), are both a mix of sheep breeding and finishing, bull finishing and cattle trading. Each property has its own environmental plan and is independently accounted for financially and in terms of production.
Beetham Pastural is a high-performing and well organised business with excellent infrastructure and policies. The Owners are passionate about the Red Meat Sector, the environment and the integration with biodiversity and forestry – they take real pride in those aspects.

WHAT
Due to the Managing Director taking up additional governance work outside the farm gate, the business has recently undergone a restructure and now requires an Operations Manager to work in conjunction with the Owners. Reporting to the Managing Director, the below are the general responsibilities & requirements for this role:

Management
  • Manage the day-to-day, seasonal and annual requirements of the farming business.
  • Forecast ahead and respond quickly when circumstances change.
  • Responsible for the stock and management of Highcliffs farm, while having an overriding responsibility for farm management over both Beetham Pastural properties.
  • Ensure farm management systems are utilised, up to date and reviewed where required.
Financial
  • Assist the Managing Director to develop annual budgets, monitor, and review budgets on a regular basis, as well as responsibility for operational expenditure within budget allocations.
Leadership
  • Responsible for implementing a strong focus on and strategy to achieve an elevated level of culture reflecting the business values and purpose.
Maintenance
  • Ensure the infrastructure on farm are to a respectable standard, with a focus on improvement within budgeted constraints. Be proficient in observing and carrying out general maintenance requirements across the farm business.

WHO
Beetham Pastoral seeks an Operations Manager with high personal standards and the following attributes:
  • At least 2 - 3 years proven experience managing and leading a farm business.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for following and developing industry best practices.
  • Ability to manage all annual operations on farm according to the business plan and budget.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage other team members while fostering a fun and positive culture.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate instructions.
  • Follow an established plan, display initiative and take responsibility for meeting set targets.
  • Ability to drive efficiency through data driven decisions, made by monitoring and measuring, and take corrective actions where needed.
  • A high level of stockmanship skills, showing a strong instinctive ability.
  • Excellent knowledge of animal health and husbandry practices.
  • Sound computer literacy, with the desire and ability to adapt to farm-related technology and innovation.
  • Welcome regular contact with the Managing Director to ‘check in’ and keep him informed across operations.
