WHERE
Alexander Farming Genetics Ltd is a high performing family-owned farming business operating a combined 752ha in Central Waikato and Maunga Awa Station, a 540ha property 13km from Dannevirke, the main service area of the Tararua District.
Maunga Awa Station is currently being run as a semi-intensive operation, however it has the potential to further intensify with a change in farming policies. The farm is running 5,500su, based on 12su/ha, and is a mixed enterprise business with commercial Romney sheep and an Angus cattle breeding and finishing operation.
The ewes are highly productive FE tolerant sheep and come to Maunga Awa Station from Alexander Farming Genetics Ltd’s Waikato stud operation. The Owners have put the tools in place with forage crops to finish a high percentage of their progeny.
 
WHAT
Reporting directly to the Business Manager, the Operations Manager for Maunga Awa Station will have the full operational responsibility for the management of this property and ensure that the set business plans and policies for this block are met or exceeded. This is a hands-on role requiring you to have a high level of stock and pasture management skills, a good grasp on feed budgeting and the management of forage crops, and a team of 4-5 well controlled working dogs.
The Business Manager seeks an Operations Manager who is keen to monitor, record and analyse farm results whilst actively looking to increase the production of the property. Being fully compliant with NAIT and any other audit compliance. Computer literacy will be essential as you will be working to the budget and reporting on variances as well as providing the Business Manager with a monthly report.

WHO
Our client is looking for a well organised, hands-on Operations Manager who has experience within this type of role on-farm previously. The below are also key to success in this role:
  • Proven feed budgeting; grazing management planning; and daily operational planning skills.
  • Analytical, budgeting, and financial literacy skills.
  • Strong communication skills, motivated, organised with great time management skills.
  • Able to lead by example and develop positive working relationships.
  • High standard of work, flexibility, and ability.
  • Computer literate, including familiarity with the Internet and Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint applications.
  • Management/Organisation of on farm Contractors and Suppliers.
  • A high standard of personal and job-related presentation, including stock, tools and infrastructure.
