Stock Manager - Lake Heron Station
Lake Heron Station is located in the Ashburton Gorge, 1 hour inland from Ashburton, Canterbury. It is a stunning 19,600ha property comprising traditional high country, rolling-hill and intensive flat land. The station has been in the Todhunter family for four generations. For more information about the station visit:

This is a unique opportunity to join the Station’s team as a senior leader.
The Station runs 13,000 stock units, including 700 angus cattle and 11,000 merinos
and is a member of Icebreaker’s pioneering Growers Club. This requires a commitment to regenerative practices and the highest standards of animal welfare.
We’re looking for a Stock Manager who shares the Station’s commitment to
stewardship of the farm’s animals, people and natural environment. The Station is
also home to a busy tourism business (includes accommodation, farm tours, catering, scenic flights and heliskiing) and the successful applicant will be comfortable farming alongside visitors to the farm. You will be working alongside farm owners Philip and Anne, together with the current team of 2 shepherds.
You will need to enjoy sharing knowledge and skills and collaborating with the farm
owners to determine the work plan, with a focus on continuously improving farm
operations.
You will be a highly experienced stock manager who can confidently and capably take responsibility for “owning” and delivering agreed outcomes.
To be successful it goes without saying you will have great stockmanship and feed management skills. You will also need to have:
- Experience in successful stock management on a similar property
- A commitment to industry leading animal, people and environmental management
- Effective communication and time management skills
- A team of good working dogs
- The ability to use technology in farming
- A passion for healthy and safe work
- Dedication to recording farm performance
We offer:
- A role on one of New Zealand’s most special properties with outstanding outdoor activities on your doorstep
- A supportive team culture based on strong family values
- A safe and drug free workplace
- Opportunities in our wider tourism business for other family members (if desired)
- Good family accommodation in a warm 3 bedroom house.
- Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or valid NZ work visa
