WHERE
Seven Hills Farming is a 1,400 ha family-owned property located 15 minutes from both Pahiatua and Eketahuna. The farm comprises 200 ha of flats, approximately 700 ha of medium to steep hill country, and 500 ha of Manuka.

Currently operating at 10,000su, with a mix of stud and commercial stock, the business runs a 50:50 ratio of Romney sheep and Angus cattle.

Owned by Bryan and Nicki Bendall, Seven Hills has a long-standing reputation for producing quality genetics, with over 50 years of experience in breeding and stock performance.


WHAT
Seven Hills Farming is seeking a capable and motivated 2IC to join their small but efficient team, working alongside the Farm Owner and Senior Shepherd. This is a hands-on role with an 80:20 split between stock and general farm work, that offers exposure to both commercial and stud operations.

Daily team meetings ensure clear communication and planning. For the right person, this role provides scope to influence stocking policies, contribute to farm development, and
take on more leadership. New ideas are welcomed, and the owners support ongoing learning through training, discussion groups, and field days.

WHO
Our client is looking for a 2IC who is eager to learn about their stud and commercial operation alongside a keen interest in genetics. The below will also be key to success in this role:

  • Solid understanding of the fundamentals of farming.
  • Good knowledge of feed quality, supply, and demand.
  • Clear communicator with the ability to build strong relationships.
  • Keen to utilise technology and modern farm systems.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage time effectively.
  • A reliable team of 4–6 working dogs under good control.
  • Accuracy in record keeping and reporting.
  • Practical capability in general farm maintenance.
  • Strong stockmanship with a sharp eye for detail.
  • Well-developed observation of livestock and pasture.
