WHERE
Ohinewairua Station is a large-scale, well-established 7,500-hectare sheep, beef, and deer farming operation located on the Napier–Taihape Road in the Central North Island. Family-owned by longstanding shareholders, the property features predominantly flat to rolling hill country and enjoys a striking setting adjoining the Waiouru Army Base with the Kaimanawa Ranges close by.

Running approximately 50,000 stock units under a mixed breeding and finishing policy, the station is recognised for its efficient management and strong production focus. The business is supported by extensive, well-maintained infrastructure, including two metalled all-weather farm tracks providing excellent access across the property, robust farming systems, and well-developed cropping and feed plans that underpin performance and sustainability.

WHAT
Ohinewairua Station has a respected 2IC who leads livestock operations and supports the team day to day. As a Shepherd, you’ll join a team of six and be involved in all aspects of stock work including mustering, stock movements, yards, animal health, and hand-piece work. The role suits someone with 1–2 years’ experience, with the opportunity to grow your dog team over time.

Stock work is mainly carried out using quad bikes and side-by-sides, with opportunities to use horses for mustering at times. The position is fully found, offering tidy single accommodation, meals while on duty, internet access, and the support of a structured, professional farming operation.
